Belize Arrival

Well little guys, we finally made it!! After a great flight and clearing customs without being deported, we almost had heart attacks waiting for our bags. We weren't sure if they had made it from Miami! Luckily we got them and strapped ourselves in and started sweating profusely! We were greeted by the CARE Belize director Evan holding a "Queen's Students" sign. Away we went in his pickup truck to the CARE office. At the office we met sister Bev, Jherilee (GEM) and a few other people who work here. Jherilee toured us around the city in the truck. We discovered we would be good friends with our shared interest in food and coconut rum! We got delicious fresh fruit juice in HUGE buckets that quenched our thirst and fried salbutos (unreal).

We made it to our homestay in the late afternoon. The family is a couple of cuties! Bustling mother who never stops cooking for an army- three foot tall ball of energy. The dad just chills soo hard sans shirt- belly out. We met our new brother (English guy) and sister (Virginia from Australia).  For dinner we had a delicious chicken dinner with mac and cheese and salad.  We also had homemade "powder buns" which are like cinnamon raisin tea biscuits..yum!

Finally, the long day ended at bedtime with our new friend "la cucaracha".  Jennipoh tried to scare it with her headlamp and Sully's shoe.  Fail.  We cowered in the corner while our tiny homestay mother killed it for us and removed it.

Poh didn't sleep a wink.  Sweat factor 10 (SF 10).  She woke up kinda cranky.  Sawwy.  Made exciting adventure plans for the weekend though.  Update coming soon!  Thee!

Adios amigos!
